With the procedure cryosurgery, cervix tissue is removed that has the human papillomavirus that also causes penile wart viruses. The tissues are frozen to -20 degrees, that is enough for killing cancerous cells. It may be also used to treat HPV on the external genitalia for cosmetic purposes. Injuries or complications are rare, there is a minimal chance of bleeding during or after the procedure. With the procedure cryosurgery, cervix tissue is removed that has the human papillomavirus that also causes penile wart viruses.

The term refers to an ablative method of treating early stages of cervical dysplasia, which can be applied in outpatient settings; it is also the least expensive treatment for CIN.
