Colposcopy Biopsy

A colposcopy biopsy procedure uses colposcope (large magnifier) that aids more accurate cone biopsy or excision of a venereal wart. When using a colposcope, with a vinegar solution on the cervix, abnormal areas appear white and are from where tissue samples are taken. If there are no obvious white areas, then blind or random samples will be taken. The samples are obtained using a large needle or small forceps. When ever a doctor uses a colposcope to view the abnormal areas on the cervix after finding an abnormal pap smear, they also take tissue samples to be sent to a lab and further examined to better determine the stage of dysplasia found.
